Roger Capron (1920-2006) was born at Vincennes, France and studied at the Ecole des Arts Appliques in Paris from 1939-1944. In 1946 he established the atelier Callis in Vallauris, South of France, the area where Picasso worked. By 1957 his work was so popular he had orders from all over the world including Saks Fifth Avenue. He won a gold medal at the Milan Trienalle in 1954, silver medal at Cannes international 1955, and gold medal at the Brussels Exhibition of architectural ceramics in 1957 and 1958. From 1963 he concentrated on making his popular architectural mural commissions. In the 1980s he reverted to making one off pieces which he showed internationally.
