Paola Buffa (1903-1970) Architect and designer, Italy. Buffa was one of the most important and prolific designers of the Twentieth Century, working in the studios of Gio Ponti and producing classical designs such as his pagoda style, whilst working in exotic woods. In the 1930s he sought a more simple style producing furniture resting on simple supports. His favourite subject matter was the signs of the zodiac or hunting scenes, `la scene di caccia`. He also designed lamps and ceramics. All his work was characterised by the quality of design and materials and attention to detail
