Osvaldo Borsani (1911-85) was born in Varedo Switzerland but spent his working life in Milan. He was the son of a well known furniture craftsman with whom he collaborated as he did with his twin brother Fulgencia.In 1937 he entered the Politechnico di Milano to study architecture, and after graduation he joined the family business as a furniture designer.He had a long history of participation in the Trienalle di Milano dating back to 1933 and would continue to exhibit there throughout his creative life In 1953 he and his brother Fulgencia founded the famous Tecno firm which became known for its technological approach to design.An example of its flagship P40 chair can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.Osvaldo acted as the company`s sole designer for over thirty years and it was not until the 1980s that Gae Ulenti, Norman Foster and others contributed designs. A prolofic and successful designer his designs were showcased by museums and galleries throughout Europe and in 1962 he received the prestigious Premio Compasso d`Oro.
