Jacques Adnet

Jacques Adnet (1900-1984)and his twin (Jean) were born near Bourgogne, France and in 1916 studied Architecture at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs. The brothers exhibited at the famous 1925 Exposition but parted company in 1928..His furniture incorporated often exotic woods for the carcases and in1930 there was a sharp transition to chromed metal , with shelves and doors embellished with mirror, leather, galuchat, parchment or smoked glass. He joined the Compagnie des Arts Francais (established in 1919 by Sue et Mare) and changed its charter, rejecting tradition. The firm provided Adnet with a platform to promote his modernistic and by 1928 avante garde designs. The Compagnie des Arts Francais also exposed the work of other important designers such as Noll, Charlotte Perriand and jouve. Adnet also developed some of his furniture, lamps and accessories in collaboration with Hermes.
